From Christian Dior to Yves St. Laurent to Ralph Lauren to Coach

In 1970, Robert L. Adelstein began working in jewelry and accessories sales at the legendary Christian Dior. He was quickly recognized for his own designs, which became best sellers in the line. In 1972, Robert started his own accessories business, which he sold in 1975 to Manhattan Industries. He stayed at the company as Vice President of the Yves St. Laurent Accessories Division for four years. Recognizing the growing need for custom metal manufacturing, Robert launched Metal Dynamics in 1979 in Providence, Rhode Island.

Metal Dynamics quickly established an impressive list of customers including Yves St. Laurent, Christian Dior, Ghurka, Ralph Lauren, and Coach Leather Goods. As the company became better known for its expertise and news of its reputation as the go-to-source for custom and innovative metal manufacturing spread, its client list and business volume exploded. In 1993, Robert’s son, James Adelstein joined Metal Dynamics to lead the development of new markets and partnerships in the U.S. and abroad. Today, Metal Dynamics services clients across the globe from its original headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island and offices in New York, London, and Hong Kong. Metal Dynamics also has operations facilities and partnerships throughout Asia to service product manufacturing, assembly, and distribution.

In 2009, James Adelstein was named President of Metal Dynamics as Robert simultaneously assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer. Robert continues to be involved in day-to-day operations.

With James as President, Metal Dynamics made a strategic decision to expand its manufacturing capabilities to include injection molding for plastics. The move into this field proved to be the right one, garnering industry recognition for the company and its clients.
